TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the air quality of three cities and districts in Indonesia at moderate, unhealthy, very unhealthy, and hazardous levels during December 2024. The measurement was based on the monthly average value of dust particulate concentrations measuring less than 2.5 micrometers or PM2.5.
"BMKG continues to monitor air quality, one of which is monitoring PM2.5 concentrations. PM2.5 is an air pollutant with a size of 2.5 µm (micrometers), so it can easily enter the respiratory system," wrote BMKG in an Instagram post @infobmkg, on Saturday, January 5, 2025.
Air quality based on PM2.5 has five categories, namely good (0 - 15.4), moderate (15.5 - 55.4), unhealthy (55.5 - 150.4), very unhealthy (150.5 - 250.4), and hazardous (more than 250.4).
Cities and regencies whose air is categorized as "very unhealthy" are Deli Serdang Regency and Palembang City, while Batam City is categorized as "hazardous".
Here are the details:
