TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Interpol and Indonesian National Police (Polri) have arrested a British national, Steven Lyons, who has been on the international wanted list. The police apprehended the 45-year-old man, who is suspected of being involved in various transnational crimes, in Bali on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The Secretary of the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Polri, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, stated that the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, together with the Bali Regional Police and the Immigration at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, carried out the arrest. "This success stemmed from the exchange of rapid and precise intelligence information," Untung said in a written statement on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Untung explained that Interpol Polri received information from the NCB in Abu Dhabi regarding Steven Lyons' movement towards Indonesia. Interpol included Lyons' name in the Red Notice list with the number A-4908/3-2026 issued on March 26, 2026.
This arrest is part of an international joint operation called "Operation Armourum". Law enforcement authorities from Spain and Scotland, including the Guardia Civil and Police Scotland, were involved in the operation.
Lyons is known to lead the organized crime network "Lyons Crime Family" based in Scotland. The group is suspected of controlling large-scale money laundering and drug trafficking from Spain to the United Kingdom.
A day before Lyons' arrest in Indonesia, law enforcement agencies in Europe had simultaneously carried out operations and arrested dozens of members of the network, 33 people in Scotland and 12 in Spain.
Lyons fled to Indonesia and arrived in Bali on March 28, 2026. After receiving the Red Notice information, the Immigration authorities immediately coordinated with the local police, ultimately capturing Lyons without resistance.
Indonesian authorities will deport Lyons to face legal proceedings in Europe. The Spanish Guardia Civil will repatriate Lyons to their country.
