TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The International Criminal Court's (ICC) chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, said on Monday, December 2, 2024, that the court has collected more evidence and information in the past 18 months than in the 20 years since its establishment.
Karim Khan, a former British lawyer and politician, emphasized the recent court's intense efforts in his speech at the 23rd Assembly of States Parties (ASP) of the ICC’s Rome Statute.
ICC received the most evidence and documents in its history last year, with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and victims submitting a large number of documents and evidence based on Article 15 of the Rome Statute, he said, as quoted by Anadolu.
From the 30 arrest warrants issued by the court, Khan said 18 arrest warrants were issued in the last three years.
Emphasizing that the law must be applied equally to everyone, Karim Khan said that the protection enjoyed by people in one part of the world is no different from that in others.
He touched on the importance of working together to better achieve the court's goals and tasks assigned based on the Rome Statute.
On November 21, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
