TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, warmly welcomed and congratulated Indonesia on its official admission as a full member of the BRICS group of nations. This announcement, made by Brazil as the current BRICS chair, has garnered international attention.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Indonesia, as a large developing country and an important force in the Global South, highly appreciates the BRICS spirit and takes an active part in the "BRICS Plus" cooperation.
According to him, as reported by Antara, Indonesia’s official entry into BRICS serves the common interests of BRICS countries and the Global South. “We believe that Indonesia will make an active contribution to the development of BRICS,” he added.
The spokesperson also noted that BRICS is a main platform for promoting solidarity and cooperation in the Global South and a major force driving the reform of the global governance system. Additionally, BRICS countries are always committed to multilateralism, fairness and justice, and common development.
The expansion of BRICS membership reflects the growing influence of the Global South on the world stage. China expressed its readiness to collaborate closely with Indonesia and other BRICS members to cultivate a more comprehensive, robust, and inclusive partnership.
Beijing also hopes to advance the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation and make a greater contribution to building a community with a shared future for mankind.
