TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, Director of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, Palestine, was killed in an Israeli attack on his residence in western Gaza on Wednesday, June 2, 2025.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Dr. Marwan, his wife, and several of their children died in the attack. Their bodies were subsequently taken to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.
The same report also noted that two Palestinian civilians were killed and several others injured in a separate attack on Al-Zaytoun School in the southern part of Gaza City.
The Indonesian humanitarian organization MER-C confirmed Dr. Marwan and his family's deaths in a direct attack on their home. "The information received states that a total of nine Palestinians were martyred in the attack, and several others were injured," MER-C said in a written statement on social media.
MER-C described Dr. Marwan as a dedicated figure who provided healthcare services to the people of Gaza, especially during prolonged humanitarian crises. "His passing has deeply saddened not only his colleagues but also the patients and the entire Gaza community who knew him," MER-C added.
Ongoing Israeli Genocide in Gaza
The Indonesian Hospital in Gaza has been repeatedly targeted by the Israeli army since October 7, 2023. The healthcare facility was most recently attacked at the end of May, resulting in severe structural damage and disrupting services for local residents.
Over 56,500 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed and 133,419 others injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on the grounds of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is currently facing a genocide case in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the war it waged in the besieged coastal area.
