TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor candidate number 1, Ridwan Kamil, said that several problems in Jakarta, ranging from extreme disparities to floods, are caused by spatial injustice.
"Everything we feel today is the accumulation of spatial injustice," said Ridwan when presenting his vision-mission in the third Jakarta Gubernatorial Election debate at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
According to him, spatial injustice is a negative impact of political spatial segregation since colonial times. He said that the impacts from the past still remain and are felt today.
He stated that spatial injustice has created extreme disparities. The former Governor of West Java said that these extreme disparities can be seen in issues such as clean water problems, pollution during the dry season, floods, and piling trash.
"There are slum areas resembling refugee camps, contrasting greatly with Sudirman-Thamrin which is sparkling," said Emil.
To address the issue of spatial injustice, Emil believes the government needs to intervene. According to him, programs to manage mangroves and build the Giant Sea Wall could be the solution to these problems.
"Regarding waste, the zero waste concept must be implemented, and we need to innovate our circular economy," he said.
He also promised to renovate houses by providing assistance of Rp 50-100 million. Emil mentioned that he had implemented this program during his tenure as Governor of West Java. "We resolve it ecologically, technologically, and let's not forget we introduce a new economy," said Emil.
The Jakarta Regional General Election Commission (KPU) held the third debate for the Jakarta Governor and Vice Governor candidates for the 2024 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election with the theme "Urban Environment and Climate Change."
