TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, apologized for the long queues to get 3-kilogram liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in the South Tangerang area, Banten, causing a victim.
"As the government, we sincerely apologize if this occurred, as this was done solely for restructuring purposes," said Bahlil after inspecting one of the 3-kilogram LPG depots in the Palmerah area of Jakarta on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Bahlil explained that the government is making policy improvements to prevent the situation from worsening. One of the measures he has taken is to change the status of retailers to sub-depots, allowing them to sell 3-kilogram LPG again.
Bahlil is aware that retailers are at the forefront of the 3-kilogram LPG distribution, connecting depots with the wider community. "What we are doing this morning and tonight is a response. We want the people to receive LPG properly and easily," said Bahlil.
He said that 3-kilogram LPG retailers are now operating again but under the new name of sub-depots. The goal of reopening these 3-kilogram LPG retailers is to normalize the distribution channels for the subsidized gas.
Bahlil said that currently, 370,000 retailers have been registered as sub-depots for the 3-kilogram LPG. For those retailers who have not yet been registered as sub-depots, Bahlil mentioned that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will actively work with Pertamina to equip them with an application system and assist in the process of becoming sub-depots.
Bahlil also apologized regarding the news of a resident from RT/RW 001/007, Pamulang Barat Village, Pamulang District, South Tangerang City (Tangsel), named Yonih (62), who was reported to have passed away, allegedly due to exhaustion after waiting in line to collect a subsidized 3-kilogram LPG in the area on Monday, February 3, 2025.
The sad news was shared by the Head of Neighborhood 001, Pamulang Barat, Saeful, who said that Yonih is suspected to have died from exhaustion, which was the primary factor in her death. He explained that the deceased had been waiting in line at the LPG depot, located about 300 meters from her house. She left home around 10:00 AM.
After receiving the gas, he said, the deceased then headed home and took a rest on the way. He also mentioned that after realizing the deceased needed medical attention, her family took Yonih to the nearest hospital. However, it was later confirmed that she had passed away before reaching the hospital.
