Fact Check: Al Jazeera Report on Netanyahu's Death Is AI-Generated

6 hours ago 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several posts on Instagram [archive], Facebook, TikTok and X claimed that Al Jazeera reported the death of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on March 10, 2026. The clip, less than a minute long, shows black and white CCTV footage of a building collapsing on men during what seemed to be a meeting. The footage, bearing the Al Jazeera logo, includes the text: “Reports are coming in that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been killed in an Iranian missile strike on March 10th.”

But did Al Jazeera really broadcast the video as proof of Netanyahu's death?

FACT CHECK

Tempo verified the content through manual visual analysis, AI detection tools, and other credible sources. The results showed that Al Jazeera never broadcast the video. The footage was generated by artificial intelligence.

Tempo first manually analyzed the visuals and found several irregularities. In the clip featuring the news anchor, a couple of cameras and several microphones were seen in an unusual position. The spelling of Israel and Netanyahu in the news ticker appeared to be incorrect.

Similar anomalies were also seen in the clip of the collapsed building. Several men present in the video had their heads oddly seeming to be detached, and Netanyahu appeared to be missing from the footage.

Analysis with the AI detection tool Hive Moderation resulted in an 82.3 percent probability score that the video was AI-generated.

Fact-checkers Teyit from Turkey, Newtral from Spain, and India-based The Quint also concluded the video and narrative were hoaxes. They also found evidence that the clip was generated using AI.

Netanyahu's Condition

Rumors of Benjamin Netanyahu's death surfaced following the circulation of a fake video created by an artificial intelligence. Netanyahu denied the rumors in a media statement on March 24, 2026. He emphasized that Israel would continue to attack Iran and Lebanon after Hezbollah launched missile and drone attacks. "We continue to hit Hezbollah hard," he said.

On March 26, 2026, Aljazeera.com, Timeofisrael.com, and Arabnews posted videos and photos of Netanyahu attending a virtual meeting with leaders of northern Israeli cities.

CONCLUSION

Tempo's verification concluded that the narrative claiming the circulating video showed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been killed in a missile strike while leading a meeting in a bunker is false.
