Floods Submerge 13 Districts in Bekasi City and Regency

2 hours ago 16

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rainfall from Monday night, March 3, 2025, until early Tuesday, March 4, 2025, caused floods in the areas of Bekasi City and Regency, West Java.

The Bekasi City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that seven districts were impacted by the flooding, including East Bekasi, North Bekasi, South Bekasi, Medan Satria, Jatiasih, Pondok Gede, and Rawalumbu.

Around 140 homes were submerged, with water levels reaching up to 300 centimeters. In response, the Bekasi City BPBD distributed aid and deployed rubber boats to evacuate residents in the affected areas.

To prevent electrocution incidents during the flood, the Bekasi City State Electricity Company (PLN) temporarily disconnected the power supply in several flooded regions.

Meanwhile, in Bekasi Regency, heavy rains combined with water overflow from upstream rivers led to flooding in six districts: Cibarusah, Serang Baru, Setu, North Cikarang, Cibitung, and North Tambun.

The Bekasi Regency BPBD stated that the water level in these areas reached up to 150 centimeters, submerging 15 houses. As of Tuesday morning, some areas remained flooded. The BPBD, along with joint teams, continued evacuating residents using rubber boats.

The Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto stated that the central government, through the BNPB, supports the needs of regional governments and affected communities in responding to the flood emergency in the Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) area.

"We will deploy personnel and equipment to each affected area according to the needs in the field," said Suharyanto at the Flood Handling Press Conference in the Jabodetabek Area on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

The BNPB urged regional governments and communities to remain vigilant against the potential for further flooding, to evacuate to safer places if affected by floods, and to prepare essential needs and follow instructions from authorized officers.
