TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Indonesian Transportation Ministry has opened a Unified Command Post for Handling the Evacuation of passenger motorboat (KMP) Tunu Pratama Jaya at the ASDP Gilimanuk Branch Office.
The post was opened after the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, which sailed from Ketapang Port to Gilimanuk Port, experienced distress conditions on Wednesday night and sank at 23.35 WIB (Indonesia Western Time). This incident occurred in the Bali Strait waters, precisely at coordinates 8 9'32.35"S 11425'6.38"E.
"The Directorate General of Sea Transportation expresses deep concern over this incident and ensures that every handling step is taken quickly, in a coordinated manner, and prioritizes human safety," said Director General of Sea Transportation Muhammad Masyhud through an official statement on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Based on temporary manifest data, KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya carried 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles of various types. As of 10:00 local time, four people were reported dead. Meanwhile, 31 passengers were successfully evacuated in a safe condition. "The data of the names and information of the victims are still being recorded," Masyhud said.
Masyhud stated that the search and rescue operation conducted since early Thursday is ongoing. However, the evacuation process faces challenges such as high waves up to 2.5 meters, strong winds, and strong currents around the incident location.
"We continue to coordinate with all stakeholders to support the smoothness of the search and rescue operation," he said.
