France Climbs to Top of FIFA Rankings as Indonesia Remains at 122nd

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - France has once again taken the top spot in the latest FIFA ranking update released on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The team, known as Les Bleus, rose two places after securing two victories in their recent friendly matches, ending their wait since last reaching the top position in September 2018.

France now holds 1,877.32 points, narrowly ahead of Spain in second place with 1,876.40 points, and Argentina in third place with 1,874.81 points. Spain, which had been at the top of the rankings since September 2025, dropped one place after only managing a draw against Egypt in their most recent friendly match.

Another change at the top occurred in fifth place. As cited from Antara, Portugal rose one spot to overtake Brazil, which fell to sixth place. This result was influenced by Portugal's performance of one victory, one draw, and Brazil's loss to France.

Meanwhile, there were no significant changes in the positions of the other teams in the top 10. Outside of that, several countries recorded noticeable rises in their rankings. Turkey climbed to 22nd place, Ivory Coast to 34th, Sweden to 38th, and Tunisia to 44th.

Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced a significant leap, rising six places to 65th. They also secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup, along with Sweden, Turkey, and the Czech Republic, which is currently in 41st.

Outside of the top 50, Vietnam rose nine places to 99th, followed by Nepal (176) and Bhutan (186), each rising six spots. Eritrea also re-entered the FIFA ranking at 184th position after being absent for almost three years.

With the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup qualification phase, only three teams from the top 30 failed to qualify for the final round: Italy (12th place), Denmark (20th place), and Nigeria (26th place). In total, 37 of the 48 participants in the 2026 World Cup are among the top 50 teams in the FIFA rankings. Meanwhile, Kosovo, despite failing to qualify for the World Cup, made history by reaching its highest-ever ranking at 78th place.

As for the Indonesian national team, it remains in 122nd place with 1,144.88 points. In the latest FIFA series, Indonesia recorded a 4-0 victory over St Kitts and Nevis before narrowly losing 0-1 to Bulgaria.
