TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the Honorary Council of the Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation (FSGI) Heru Purnomo said that the Free Nutritious Meal program should be distributed during breakfast time for all classes, be it Kindergarten, Elementary School, Junior High School, High School. This program has been started since Monday, January 6, 2025.
According to Heru, providing breakfast to students can help them have the energy and mind to understand the lesson well. In addition, breakfast also plays a role in supporting mental readiness, so that students are more ready to learn.
Heru said, his findings in the field as a teacher, many students are not enthusiastic about following lessons when they are hungry. In fact, it is not uncommon for him to find students leaving the classroom and going to the canteen during class hours.
"That morning (the students) were already at the back, in the canteen. They didn't pay attention to studying but were more concerned with eating. I asked, Why? They answered, My stomach is hungry, sir. I didn't have breakfast at home, I only drank water," said Heru when contacted Monday night, January 6, 2025.
Then, Heru argued that if lunch was served around 12.00, students had missed around 75 to 80 percent of the learning time. The rest of the learning is usually only filled with lighter material, because during the day students tend to be tired and less fresh. Therefore, according to him, if the goal of this program is to develop students in order to welcome the 2045 demographic bonus, it should be given at breakfast.
"So that nutritious food full of protein can become energy in developing their thinking skills, preparation skills, and physical growth skills, so that their physical condition becomes better," he said.
For information, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan Hindayana said there were three stages of providing food. First, for students from PAUD to grade 2 of elementary school, food must be delivered at 07:45 local time to be eaten at 08:00. Second, for students from grades 3 to 6, it is delivered at 09:00 to be eaten at 9:30.
"Then junior high and high school students are sent at 11:30 to be eaten at 12:00," said Dadan at the 2024 National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Central and Regional Governments, Thursday, November 7, 2024.
Head of Presidential Communications Hasan Nasbi said that from January to March 2025, the MBG program is expected to reach three million beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries consist of toddlers, Islamic boarding school students, PAUD, Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior High, High School students, and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. This number will continue to grow to reach 15 million by the end of 2025.
However, on the first day of implementation, it had not yet targeted all provinces in Indonesia. In the early stages of implementing this program, the government determined 190 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) points spread across 26 of the 38 provinces.
Head of BGN Dadan said the reason for the incomplete implementation was because the determination of the location of the MBG program execution point was based on the readiness of each region. Including in it adequate infrastructure readiness.
"Because we prioritize quality. President Prabowo Subianto has repeatedly advised, do not pursue quantity but quality," said Dadan after a meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Senayan parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Monday, January 6, 2025.
