GBK Management to Refund Customers as VAT Hike Withdrawn

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe facilities at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex have been excluded from the value-added tax (VAT) rate increase to 12 percent. The GBK Complex Management Center said it would refund users who have rented the facilities during January 1 and 2, 2025.

GBK Management has applied a 12 percent VAT rate before revising it back to an 11 percent rate on Friday, January 3, and claimed it has contacted users who have already paid for the previous VAT rate for a refund.

“We will contact users who have rented, as we have the data,” said Head of Marketing and Sales Division of GBK Management Sri Lestari Puji Astuti by telephone on Friday, January 3.

Sri Lestari said the VAT hike exclusion for the GBK complex has been confirmed through the Ministry of Finance on Thursday afternoon. The GBK Management has now revised the VAT rate back to 11 percent on its online reservation or e-booking page.

The VAT hike to 12 percent for luxury goods took effect on January 1, based on ministerial regulation No. 131 of 2024, inked by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati on December 31, 2024.

The GBK Management applies the 12 percent rate on January 2 on the grounds of administrative convenience in case the facilities were to be considered luxury goods. That way, if affected by the VAT increase, the management is no longer required to bill customers who rent facilities at the GBK Complex.

Conversely, management can return overpayments to customers if the GBK complex is not affected by the new VAT rate. “We find it easier to do so instead of having to chase customers who have rented the facilities at GBK,” she said on Thursday.
