TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The British monarchs, King Charles III and Queen Camilla, have expressed their condolences on Pope Francis’ passing today. The King and Queen of England wrote a mourning statement on the Royal Family's social media account on Monday, April 21, 2025. "My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis," wrote the father of two.
Pope Francis Delivered Easter Greetings
Despite feeling deep sorrow, the British King felt “somewhat eased,” as Pope Francis had still managed to celebrate his last Easter at the Vatican. "His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry," wrote Charles.
King Charles III wrote that the Pope will always be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church, and his tireless commitment to people of faith, and those who act benevolently for the benefit of others.
"His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world," he wrote.
King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed their joy in being able to visit Pope Francis earlier this month. "We send our most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Church he served," wrote the highest leader of the Church of England.
