TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, stated that the government will offer assistance to people addicted to online gambling. The man known as Cak Imin conveyed this during a visit to patients who are victims of online gambling at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital or RSCM in Jakarta on Friday, November 15, 2024.
"Certainly (will receive government aid), because this is part of the social victims," he said at RSCM, Jakarta, on Friday, November 15, 2024.
Cak Imin assures that the government will not only cover the cost of hospital treatment through BPJS. The Ministry of Social Affairs will also offer various assistance to online gambling addicts.
However, he could not confirm whether the families of the victims would also receive assistance. He explained that there is currently no program from his ministry for the families of those affected by online gambling.
"We will first gather the facts, then we will see the solutions," said Cak Imin.
The PKB chairman stated that the phenomenon of online gambling in Indonesia has been classified as a social disaster. According to him, online gambling has damaged all aspects of life and prevented individuals from progressing towards well-being.
"People who are involved in and become victims of online gambling destroy their entire livelihood; the economic, social, psychological, or their family," said Cak Imin.
He mentioned that the country must be present to help and rehabilitate its people affected by online gambling addiction. He stated that he would invite all stakeholders to work together to address this online gambling threat.
"I have asked several ministries, including the Ministry of Health, to continue to detect [online gambling victims] in all hospitals," he added.
