TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defendant in the tin corruption case, Harvey Moeis, will face a verdict hearing at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court today, Monday, December 23, 2024. Harvey was previously sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp1 billion and compensation for state losses of Rp210 billion.

"For the reading of the verdict," is written on the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) case tracking information system page.

According to the schedule on the page, the trial will be held at 10:20 local time. The location is in the Muhammad Hatta Ali room of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court.

In the previous trial, the panel of judges said that they would hold a verdict hearing before December 25. "Before Christmas, we decide," said Chief Justice Eko Aryanto at the Corruption Court.

Previously on Monday, December 9, 2024, the public prosecutor (JPU) asked the panel of judges to sentence the husband of artist Sandra Dewi to 12 years in prison. Harvey was also demanded to pay a fine of Rp1 billion, subsidiary to one year in prison.

"Sentencing the defendant to pay compensation of Rp210 billion," continued the Prosecutor. If Harvey cannot pay the additional penalty, his assets will be confiscated. If it is still insufficient, he will be sentenced to 6 years.

The Public Prosecutor explained that the aggravating factor for Harvey Moeis's demands was that the defendant did not support the government in organizing a clean state free from corruption, collusion, and nepotism. In addition, his actions resulted in state losses of up to Rp300 trillion.

The Prosecutor also assessed that Harvey's actions had benefited him by Rp420 billion. He also gave convoluted statements during the trial.

"The mitigating factor is that the defendant has never been convicted," said the Prosecutor.

The prosecutor assessed that Harvey Moeis had violated Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, as well as Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and Article 3 or Article 4 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of TPPU.

In this case, Harvey Moeis was said to be an extension of PT Refined Bangka Tin (RBT) which illegally collaborated with PT Timah regarding smelter rental. In addition, PT RBT was also said to have carried out illegal mining in the mining business permit area owned by PT Timah through its puppet companies.
