TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that he will meet with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to discuss the proposed increase in premiums for the health insurance of the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan). He has also scheduled a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto regarding the matter.
"I'll discuss it with Ibu Sri Mulyani and Pak President. The meeting with Bapak President has been scheduled," Budi said when met at the Directorate General of Health Human Resources office at the Health Ministry, South Jakarta, on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Budi emphasized the need for careful consideration when determining the final figures for the proposed increase.
He previously stated that BPJS Kesehatan premiums would be adjusted in 2026. Based on calculations with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, BPJS Kesehatan's financial condition is projected to remain stable until 2025. However, tariff adjustments will still be necessary in 2026.
"I've told Bapak (Prabowo) that according to our calculations and with Bu Finance Minister, 2025 should be safe, but there might need to be an adjustment in the tariff in 2026," Budi said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Separately, Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission IX, Felly Esterita Runtuwene, stated that an increase in BPJS Kesehatan premiums is unavoidable due to rising medicine prices.
"The prices of medicines and other things have been high for several years, so this increase cannot be prevented," Felly said when met at the i-Hub Coworking Space building, Jakarta, on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
However, Felly clarified that there have been no discussions yet regarding the specific percentage of the targeted increase in health insurance program premiums. She explained that the DPR still requires data to serve as the basis for determining the appropriate hike.
