TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy for Funding and Investment of the Indonesian Capital Authority (IKN) Agung Wicaksono claimed to have received many letters of intent (LoI) or statements of interest from potential European investors. One of these potentials comes from Finland.

"There are four LoIs from Finland and one of them has already signed an MoU," said Agung through an official statement from the IKN Authority on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. "Hopefully this MoU can result in realization, so that investment from foreign investors continues to increase."

Today, the IKN Authority received a visit from the Finnish Embassy to Indonesia together with Business Finland. Pekka Kaihilahti, Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste, and ASEAN, said the visit was made because his party wanted to work with the IKN Authority in developing smart cities.

"We have the best expertise, experience, and application in terms of smart cities and we want to share all of that with Indonesia," said Pekka.

Previously, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, the IKN Authority also received a visit from a delegation from the Swedish Parliament. Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono claimed that Sweden was interested in investing in the new capital city development project in East Kalimantan.

"They asked about the development of electric vehicle (EV) technology and transportation," said Basuki, quoted through an official statement. "He (Swedish Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia) will bring several Swedish investors back here."

Along with the investment interest, Basuki said that President Prabowo Subianto had confirmed that the IKN development project would continue. The former Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that there were three sources of financing for the development of the IKN, namely from the State Budget (APBN), private sector investment, and Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU).

"We convey that there has been private sector investment of around Rp58 trillion. "KPBU has also been available from proposals that are being processed for roads, MUT (Multi Utility Tunnel) and housing, from Intiland and Nindya Karya," said Basuki. Meanwhile, financing from the APBN to date is recorded at Rp68 trillion.

Previously, the IKN Authority targeted a realization of Rp100 trillion in 2024. However, the investment recorded through 8 stages of groundbreaking throughout 2023 to 2024 has only reached Rp58 trillion. In fact, President Jokowi had promoted it several times at that time.

One of them is by saying that investing in the IKN is the same as buying the future—when carrying out a number of groundbreaking development projects. Most recently, Basuki said that the 9th stage groundbreaking was ready to be implemented, but was still waiting for President Prabowo Subianto's schedule.
