TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs Agus Andrianto expressed his gratitude for living in Indonesia. He addressed the trending hashtag #KaburAjaDulu or 'Let's Just Run Away', circulating on social media platform X, amid rising public disappointment with President Prabowo Subianto's administration.
"We have everything [we need right] here. [In other countries], when winter comes, everything shuts down," Agus told reporters at the Parliament Complex on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
He reported that there has been no noticeable increase in the number of Indonesian citizens traveling abroad despite the hashtag's popularity. "So far, there is no surge. Everything remains normal."
The "#KaburAjaDulu" hashtag has been in the spotlight on social media, which is largely attributed to the disappointment of some Indonesians over government policies deemed insensitive to public welfare, including budget cuts.
Ismail Fahmi, the founder of big data consulting firm Drone Emprit, said that the hashtag's presence on social media X shows an organic pattern, rather than being driven by bot accounts. According to him, this is evident in the varied creation dates of X accounts expressing concerns about living in Indonesia and the perceived appeal of living abroad.
"The creation dates of the accounts are quite evenly distributed, from 2008 to this year. Had this been the work of bots, most of the accounts would be typically new," Ismail said, as quoted from his written statement on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Ismail further revealed that the distribution of accounts using the hashtag is geographically diverse. While the majority are in Indonesia, there are also some in the UK, South Korea, Singapore, Norway, Germany, Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands.
"The #KaburAjaDulu hashtag is being used to express a desire to move abroad and a reaction to the condition in Indonesia," said Ismail.
