TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Director-General of Economic and Fiscal Policy Strategy at the Ministry of Finance, Febrio Kacaribu, stated that exports of palm oil products to the European Union (EU) are expected to increase in the second half of 2025. This commodity is hoped to be a driving force after the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations reached the final stage.
The sale of palm oil products to the European market, according to Febrio, is part of an agreement known as IEU-CEPA. "An agreement has been reached for palm oil, so we will be able to export more there, and we hope it will be one of the driving sources," he said on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
IEU CEPA and the United States' decision to lower import tariffs are said to open up opportunities for exporting domestic products. After nearly 10 years of negotiations, a deal was reached with the EU.
According to Febrio, this agreement will increase trade and investment flows from the EU to Indonesia. "So, this is a momentum that we will use for the second half of 2025," he said.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto previously announced that IEU-CEPA had reached a final agreement. Airlangga reported the progress of the negotiations directly from Brussels on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
"IEU CEPA negotiations entered the 10th year, with more than 19 rounds. However, all the issues will be resolved, and this is certainly a new milestone amid uncertainty," said Airlangga.
This agreement brings several benefits to Indonesia. One of them is the exemption of tariffs for 80 percent of Indonesia's export products marketed to the EU. The easing of import tariffs will be obtained 1 to 2 years after the economic bilateral agreement is ratified.
