TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has urged the public to use fuel wisely. According to Bahlil, the fuel tank of a private car should be filled with 50 liters of fuel per day.
Bahlil made this statement during the announcement of the Indonesian government's policy to anticipate the potential global crisis, broadcasted from Seoul, South Korea.
"In our view, as a former public minivan driver, it's reasonable and wise that if a car is filled with 50 liters of fuel, the tank will be full for a day. We will encourage that," said Bahlil, as shown on the President's Secretariat YouTube channel on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The Chair of the Golkar Party stated that the government cannot work alone in anticipating a global crisis. Therefore, he asks for support and cooperation from the public. "For things that are not too important, we ask that we also do it wisely," said Bahlil.
Meanwhile, the government officially announced several policies as a mitigation and anticipation measure of global dynamics, one of which is to reduce the consumption of subsidized fuel.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the national fuel supply is currently in a safe condition. He said the economic condition is also well-maintained. Nevertheless, the government has decided that behavioral changes are needed for the public to remain calm and productive.
The Indonesian government also urges the public to use fuel wisely and reasonably every day to ensure fair and stable distribution.
To ensure that the public consumes fuel reasonably, the government is implementing a purchase restriction using MyPertamina barcode. Each vehicle can refuel up to 50 liters of fuel per day. This restriction does not apply to trucks and public transportation. "To ensure fuel distribution, the government will regulate fuel purchases," said Airlangga.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency and efficiency, the government will implement the B50 program, which mandates the blending of 50 percent biodiesel derived from palm oil (CPO) with 50 percent diesel fuel. This policy, effective from July 1, 2026, is claimed to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel by millions of kiloliters.
"Pertamina is ready to implement blending and this has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuel by 4 million kiloliters. In 6 months, there will also be a subsidy saving from biodiesel, estimated at Rp48 trillion," said Airlangga.
