TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh is stepping up protection efforts for Indonesian citizens in Cambodia by visiting Takhmao Prison in Kandal Province to monitor the detainees' conditions and extend logistical support.
Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, in a press statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, as reported by Antara, said that the visit was conducted to check on the citizens being held in the prison and to fulfill their basic needs.
Ambassador Santo emphasized that state protection is comprehensive, including for Indonesian citizens facing legal cases.
"Protection continues to be given to Indonesian citizens who are undergoing legal processes. This is the commitment of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh," said Santo.
During the visit, representatives of the Indonesian Embassy met with 17 detained Indonesian citizens.
Of this number, four are still undergoing trials: one related to drug possession and three others suspected of being involved in violence against fellow Indonesians, following the case of 110 Indonesian citizens from the online scam syndicate in Chrey Thum on October 17, 2025.
The detained citizens were overall in good conditions, but some complained about the sanitary facilities in the prison.
In response to these findings, the Indonesian Embassy provided logistical assistance in the form of bathing equipment, medications, and instant food to help fulfill the detainees' basic needs.
The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh emphasized that the prison visit is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that all Indonesian citizens in Cambodia receive attention, support, and assistance in accordance with the state protection mandate.
