Indonesia's Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) is promoting locally cultivated coffee to be part of sustainable economic development in the IKN area and its partner regions. "We want Liberica coffee, which has long been in the IKN and buffer zone areas, to be known not only as a distinctive commodity but also as part of the sustainable economy around IKN," said the Head of OIKN, Basuki Hadimuljono, in Nusantara City on Sunday, August 10, 2025, as reported by Antara.

As a step towards a sustainable people-based economy, OIKN held the Nusantara Liberica Coffee Exhibition (NLCE) last Saturday. The exhibition became a meeting point for farmers, processors, coffee enthusiasts, and the general public.

The exhibition brought together coffee businesses and farmers from various regions, while also opening up new market opportunities. It also provided a platform for the public to experience and understand its unique characteristics after being skillfully brewed by baristas participating in the exhibition.

Through a public cupping session (coffee tasting), participants were invited to explore the aroma, flavor, and smooth, distinctive texture of Liberica, which sets it apart from the dominant Arabica and Robusta in the market. A range of Liberica coffee products were showcased and served, from freshly harvested beans to ready-to-brew powder, accompanied by tasting sessions, discussions with baristas, and quality coffee processing training.

"Liberica is very soft-medium, thus, this can elevate the reputation of Liberica from the Arabica and Robusta-dominated market. This is the first agenda and a step towards developing local resources, one of which is coffee," said Basuki.

Basuki also collaborated to conduct research on this type of coffee. In fact, Liberica coffee will be planted near the Embung MBH IKN to cater to the needs of IKN residents.

Several Liberica coffee variants were presented during the event, such as Kuningan and Pemalang Liberica grown in the highlands, as well as Teluk Pandan and Muara Badak Liberica from the low-lying peatlands of East Kalimantan. Visitors could enjoy brewed Liberica coffee cultivated by farmers around the Core Region of the Central Government (KIPP) IKN since 1975. Local residents recognize this coffee as Liberica Sepaku Trans with a distinctive aroma and flavor resembling jackfruit.
