TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) has revealed that insurance claims for property and facilities damaged during the late-August 2025 riots have reached around Rp150 billion (US$9.2 million).
OJK’s Chief Executive for Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision, Ogi Prastomiyono, said the claims came from four business lines: property, motor vehicles, engineering, and miscellaneous insurance.
“Based on data from the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AAUI), total claims related to the August riots amounted to approximately Rp150 billion,” Ogi said in a written statement on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
OJK emphasized the importance of resolving all claims according to policy terms and prudent principles to protect policyholders’ rights and maintain public trust in the insurance industry.
Ogi also highlighted the need for additional insurance coverage for riot-related risks, commonly known as Riot, Strike, Malicious Damage, and Civil Commotion (RSMDCC) coverage.
This extended protection, he said, is essential for safeguarding public and private assets against damage caused by demonstrations that turn violent.
“As public awareness of riot and protest risks grows, we expect demand for RSMDCC coverage to rise,” Ogi noted.
The late-August demonstrations near Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) turned violent, damaging several public and private facilities.
Affected buildings included the Ciracas Police Station, the Jambi and Mamuju High Prosecutor’s Offices, the DPR/MPR complex fence, and the Jakarta Regional Office of the State Assets Directorate General (DJKN)), all insured by the State Property Insurance Consortium (KABMN).
Several other properties were covered by private insurers, including the South Sulawesi Regional Council building, Grahadi Building in Surabaya, three police posts in Slipi, Salemba, and Gunung Sari, and a hotel in Bandung.
