TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s continued commitment to support Palestine’s independence, a country that has been falling victim to Israeli aggression.
“To create world peace, Indonesia's free and active diplomacy will never abandon the Palestinian cause,” Sugiono said when delivering a speech at the 2025 Annual Press Statement of Foreign Ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office, Central Jakarta, on Friday, January 10, 2025.
The Israeli military aggression in Gaza, Palestine, has been ongoing for over 460 days, killing tens of thousands of Palestinians and displacing most of the enclave’s population. Sugiono said the number of casualties in Gaza is not a mere statistical figure.
Sugiono addressed that Indonesia supports the Palestinian struggle by delivering humanitarian aid and supporting the works of the UN Palestine refugees agency (UNRWA).
The minister then urged Israel to abide by the rules of international law. Additionally, Sugiono said Indonesia continues to call for a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israel and Palestine and request an immediate ceasefire to achieve peace.
Indonesia is also ready to send more peacekeeping troops if the UN Security Council wishes, said Sugiono.
