TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian directorate general of immigration arrested TJC, an American fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshals for sexual exploitation, attempted child exploitation, and possession of child pornography.
The arrest was made on December 30, 2024, after an in-depth investigation by Immigration as well as intensive coordination with the United States Embassy.
“The arrest was made at the Tangerang Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office when TJC applied for an extension of his visit stay permit,” said Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Yuldi Yusman at his office on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Authorities said the fugitive’s location was detected through the online residence permit extension system, where the joint personnel made the arrest.
Yuldi said TJC was facing charges of several federal criminal offenses, namely sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of minors, in violation of Article 18 of the United States Code (USC), Sections 2251(a) and 2251(e), which include the production of child sexual exploitation material.
In addition, TJC was charged with possession of child pornography in violation of 18 USC, Sections 2252A(a)(5)(B) and 2252A(b)(2), which involves the storage or possession of explicit images of children with intent to sell or for personal consumption.
These acts, he said, placed TJC in legal proceedings under the jurisdiction of the Southern District Court of Iowa in the U.S.
The fugitive entered Indonesian territory on December 4, 2024. On December 18, the Directorate General of Immigration received information from the United States Embassy that TJC's passport had been revoked.
Yuldi said that he will continue to increase surveillance of foreigners in Indonesia, especially those indicated to be involved in international crimes. “We ensure that Indonesia does not become a haven for cross-border criminals,” he said.
