TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for People's Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar has urged companies to expand their internship programs for students and job seekers.
His request was made during a meeting with industry players, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The man affectionately known as Cak Imin will ask companies to take in more interns. He will also ask President Prabowo Subianto and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to provide incentives to companies that accept interns.
"I will ask the President and Finance Minister to provide incentives. There are tax incentives, facility incentives, and other incentives. In the future, Insha Allah, internships will be funded by the government," Cak Imin said.
Cak Imin hopes that more students and prospective job seekers will take part in internship programs. He emphasized that internships are important because job seekers acquire many skills during this period.
According to Cak Imin, the high unemployment rate is due to a mismatch between job seekers and industry needs, making it difficult for job seekers to find work that aligns with industry requirements.
"This mismatch is what we want to bridge with internships, especially for the majority who have already graduated," he said.
Internship durations for job seekers vary. Cak Imin mentioned internships that last for five months or three months. He said that the company may directly recruit internship participants.
