TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate of Drug Crimes at the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a Ukrainian citizen named Roman Nazarenko who is the mastermind or controller behind a clandestine drug laboratory in Bali. Nazarenko was arrested at a Thailand Airport and arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport tonight.
"This is the controller of the drug laboratory case last May in Bali," said the Director of Drug Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit Brigadier General Mukti Juharsa at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Sunday night, December 22, 2024.
Nazarenko is the owner of a hydroponic marijuana plant in the basement of a villa in Bali. "Roman or RN acted as the controller of the two suspects who were previously arrested," he said.
Roman Nazarenko fled Indonesia last May. He was in Thailand for 109 days. "On Thursday, December 19, he will flee to Dubai and be arrested by Thai Immigration," said Mukti.
According to Mukti, as the mastermind or brain of the drug laboratory in Bali, the man controlled how the laboratory was built, ordered goods and even built a basement planted with hydroponic marijuana. "He designed it," he said.
The clandestine lab case was uncovered on May 2, 2024, when the Directorate of Drug Crimes of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit conducted a raid on a villa in the Tibubeneng area, Badung Regency, Bali. The two suspects were twin brothers, Ukrainian nationals named Ivan Volovod (31) and Mikhayla Volovod (31). Another person was a Russian national, Konstantin Krutz (KK)
During the raid, the two brothers Ivan and Mikhayla Volovod were arrested along with evidence of 9.8 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana plants and 437 grams of mephedrone. There were also hundreds of kilograms of various types of precursor chemicals for making mephedrone and hydroponic marijuana, as well as various types of laboratory equipment for making mephedrone and marijuana.
The suspects transformed the villa building they occupied into a drug factory. "The case files of the Ukrainian and Russian citizens are at stage II," said Mukti.
Mukti said that Roman Nazarenko was charged with Article 114 sub 112 sub 127 with the threat of the death penalty. "A minimum of 5 years and a fine of Rp 10 billion," said Mukti.
