TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) will work with online transportation service providers to integrate a new security complaint feature into their applications.
The feature will allow online motorcycle taxi drivers to report suspected crimes or traffic violations directly to nearby police units.
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced the plan while addressing thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers during a gathering at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Monday, October 20, 2025.
“With this feature, online motorcycle taxi drivers can immediately contact police personnel or the nearest police station if they encounter or experience problems on the road and need assistance,” Sigit said.
He noted that online motorcycle taxi drivers serve as strategic partners and valuable sources of information for the police in maintaining public security and order.
“Drivers are at the forefront of daily interactions with the public, facing diverse challenges on the streets. Their role is crucial in detecting and preventing disturbances before they escalate,” Sigit explained.
Recognizing this potential, the police aim to empower the online driver community as pioneers of traffic discipline, road safety, and crime prevention.
“They can provide the police with real-time reports on security disruptions, accidents, or criminal activities they witness,” Sigit said.
Sigit was accompanied at the event by Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, senior officials from the National Police Headquarters, and regional police chiefs from the Jakarta Metro area.
According to Sigit, around 10,000 online motorcycle taxi drivers attended the assembly, while as many as 400,000 had registered to take part.
Tempo observed that the drivers wore blue vests bearing the slogan “Guarding Jakarta with the Jakarta Metro Police.” During the event, Sigit symbolically handed the vests to two representatives of the driver community.
