TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok repatriated an Indonesian citizen named Sriwani Sayuti, who was previously detained for allegedly working illegally as a tour guide in Thailand

Bangkok police arrested Sriwani on September 22, 2024. "To be prosecuted for three alleged criminal offenses," said the Attorney General Attache, Virgaliano Nahan, in a written statement on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

The alleged criminal offenses include operating a travel agency without a permit, working as a tour guide without a permit, and working in Thailand as a foreigner without a permit.

Sriwani allegedly brought 128 of her Indonesian employees and their families for a vacation in Bangkok, Thailand, without involving local residents in organizing and arranging the travel of hundreds of Indonesian citizens.

After the arrest, Bangkok police questioned Sriwani. She was provided with a translator by the Indonesian Language Guide Association in Thailand. However, the Attorney General Attache found a misunderstanding caused by translation errors during her probing, leading to Sriwani being considered to have committed the alleged offenses.

The Attorney General Attache then accompanied Sriwani to pen a petition letter of unfair treatment to the Attorney General’s Office in Bangkok.

"Sriwani was not properly examined during the investigation with a translator provided by the complainant, which led to misunderstandings," said Virgaliano, adding that they also explained Sriwani’s standing in the letter.

On November 11, 2024, Sriwani appeared at the Bangkok court accompanied by staff from the Attorney General Attache for mandatory reporting, in which the Thai prosecutor office said they would not proceed with her prosecution.

"On November 19, 2024, Sriwani finally set foot on Indonesian soil again," said Virgaliano.
