TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Aviasi dan Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero) or InJourney, the parent company of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) in the aviation and tourism sector, will hold the GT World Challenge Asia 2025 on May 9 to 11. The event will be the first non-two-wheeled racing event at the Mandalika International Circuit. InJourney will hold the GT World Challenge Asia 2025 through its subsidiary, InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). ITDC is also the manager of the Mandalika Circuit area located in West Nusa Tenggara.

ITDC Commercial Director Troy Warokka hopes that the GT World Challenge Asia 2025 will have a positive impact on the tourism sector and the economy. "ITDC, as the manager of the area, is committed to making The Mandalika a leading sports tourism destination in Indonesia," said Troy in a written statement on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Troy claims that the event can influence the development of the area and the local economy. "This event creates a significant multiplier effect, starting from increasing tourists, hotel occupancy, growth of MSMEs, to job opportunities for the community," he said.

President Joko Widodo has inaugurated the Mandalika Circuit, Friday, November 12, 2021. After being inaugurated, this circuit is ready to host world-class racing events, including WorldSBK Indonesia 2021 and MotoGP 2022.

Meanwhile, InJourney President Director Maya Watono assessed that holding a non-two-wheeled race at the Mandalika Circuit would be an important milestone in developing the function of the venue. "The holding of the GT World Challenge Asia 2025 will be an important milestone in expanding the circuit's function as a host for four-wheeled races," said Maya.

Maya hopes that the race in May will also strengthen Indonesia's position to hold other series. "At the same time, it will strengthen Indonesia's nation branding in the eyes of the world as a leading sports and entertainment tourism destination in the Asian region," he said.

The debut of the GT World Challenge Asia series in Indonesia marks the first international motorsport event in Mandalika. This series will feature 30 GT3 cars from top teams such as Absolute Racing (Porsche and Lamborghini), Origine Motorsport (China, Porsche), Phantom Racing (China, Audi and Porsche), Plus Racing (Japan, BMW M4 GT3), Climax Racing (Mercedes-AMG GT3), and local racers Setiawan (Aston Martin) and David Tjiptobiantoro (Ferrari).
