Iranian Ambassador Calls on Indonesians to Advance Peace Efforts

4 hours ago 14

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Iran's Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, called on the Indonesian people to campaign for peace amid the increasing global conflicts. The invitation was conveyed by Boroujerdi after the meeting with the Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, at the Solo City Hall, Central Java, on April 1, 2026.

During the meeting, Boroujerdi also addressed the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, including incidents in which peacekeeping forces were harmed. He stated that Iran strongly condemns the violent actions that he said violate international law and target parties that should be protected.

He emphasized the importance of the international public's role, including Indonesia, in expressing rejection of war and violence against civilians. He said that strengthening the peace campaign is an important step to affirm that killing innocent civilians is an unjustifiable act. "War is something we must reject together," he said.

Boroujerdi also expressed Iran's condolences to Indonesia for the loss of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers in the incident in Lebanon. He viewed the attack on the peacekeeping forces as a serious violation of the norms and ethics of international relations that all parties should uphold.

According to him, parties involved in the conflict should make exceptions for targets that play a role in maintaining world stability and peace. He added that violent actions targeting those parties indicate disregard for international law. "This is something we must condemn together," he said.

Furthermore, he noted that the violence also targets civilians of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly. He stated that this condition is a strong reason for the global community to unite in rejecting war. He also responded to Israel's denial of involvement in several attacks by stating that the conflict record in the region shows a recurring pattern.

He believes that the attack in southern Lebanon could not have been carried out by anyone other than the Zionist Israeli regime. He emphasized that Iran, as a friend of Lebanon, takes this situation seriously and will continue to push for efforts to stop violence and create sustainable peace.

Mayor of Solo Respati Ardi welcomed the invitation to the peace campaign. He plans to appoint a trusted charity organization in Solo to demonstrate solidarity together. "We will appoint one of the trusted charity organizations to show this solidarity together. He conveyed that it is not about the number, but the form of humanity that is expected, the form of moral support expected from our brothers and sisters there," said Respati.
