TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Data and Information Center at the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), stated that South and East Jakarta have been the hardest-hit areas by the recent Jabodetabek floods.
He noted that the water levels in these areas have exceeded one meter.
"The extremely high water flow is making it challenging to address the situation," Yohan said during a visit to Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Yohan explained that the flooding in Jakarta has been quite unpredictable. He cited the Kampung Melayu flood as an example, where the water receded and then rose again due to the Ciliwung River overflowing.
This fluctuating condition, according to Yohan, has made it difficult for the BPBD to forecast the next developments.
Despite this, Yohan assured that the BPBD has mobilized all available personnel to manage the flood. Additionally, they have been working closely with other relevant agencies, including the Water Resources Agency, the Fire and Rescue Agency, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and the National Police.
"We are making continuous efforts and staying prepared, with coordination ongoing," he added.
Until 12:00 PM WIB, the BPBD recorded flooding in 105 neighborhoods and five road sections. The affected areas are in West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta.
"The most affected areas at the moment are in South and East Jakarta, with a height of over one meter," said Yohan.
Meanwhile, five roads have been flooded, including Basoka Raya Street in Joglo Sub-district, West Jakarta, with water levels reaching 50 centimeters. Similarly, Strategi Raya Street, also in Joglo Sub-district, West Jakarta, is flooded with 50 centimeters of water. Puri Kembangan Street in Kedoya Selatan Sub-district, West Jakarta, is submerged by 20 centimeters of water.
Puri Mutiara Street in Cilandak Sub-district, South Jakarta, has a water height of 100 centimeters. Lastly, Komplek Joglo Baru Street in West Jakarta is flooded with 30 centimeters of water.
Based on data received by Tempo, the BPBD noted that 1,792 people have been displaced due to the disaster. The evacuees come from Kampung Melayu, Bidara Cina, Cawang, Pejaten Timur, and Cilandak Timur. The largest number of evacuees is from Pejaten Timur, reaching 750 people.
