TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jasa Marga, the state toll road operator, said that 490,621 vehicles left the Greater Jakarta area or Jabotabek one week before Christmas 2024, from December 18 to 20, 2024.
This is the cumulative figure for the traffic flow from the four main toll gates, namely Cikupa toll gate (towards Merak), Ciawi toll gate (towards Puncak), Cikampek Utama toll gate (towards Trans Java), and Kalihurip Utama toll gate (towards Bandung).
Jasa Marga's Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head, Lisye Octaviana, said the total volume of traffic leaving the Jabotabek area increased by 13.5 percent compared to normal days at 432,231 vehicles. Compared to the Christmas 2023 period, the total traffic volume increased by 3 percent at 476,160 vehicles.
Lisye said that the distribution of traffic leaving Jabotabek was mostly towards the east, namely Trans Java and Bandung with 216,400 vehicles or 44.1 percent. "161,443 vehicles or 32.9 percent are heading towards the West (Merak), and 112,778 vehicles or 23 percent are heading towards the South (Puncak)," he said in an official statement on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
In detail, Lisye said that traffic from Jabotabek to Trans Java via Cikampek Utama toll gate on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road was recorded at 109,019 vehicles, an increase of 27.6 percent compared to normal traffic. Meanwhile, traffic to Bandung via the Kalihurip Utama toll gate on the Cipularang Toll Road reached 107,381 vehicles, an increase of 13.5 percent compared to normal conditions.
For the western direction, namely towards Merak via Cikupa toll gate on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Jasa Marga recorded a traffic volume of 161,443 vehicles or an increase of 9.2 percent from normal traffic. Meanwhile, the number of vehicles leaving Jabotabek for Puncak via the Ciawi toll gate on the Jagorawi Toll Road was 112,778 vehicles, an increase of 8.1 percent from the normal traffic.
Specifically for the 5 days before Christmas, Lisye said that traffic leaving Jabotabek at the four main toll gates was recorded at 182,790 vehicles, or an increase of 13.3 percent from the normal traffic of 161,263 vehicles.
"Jasa Marga also recorded an increase in vehicle flow towards the Trans Java on Friday, at the Cikampek Utama toll gate, as many as 44,636 vehicles, an increase of 38.4 percent from normal traffic, namely 32,260 vehicles," he said.
Lisye also reminded road users that the peak traffic during the Christmas season is predicted to occur today, Saturday, December 21, 2024. She appealed to the public to avoid traveling during peak hours and to travel at preferred times such as morning and evening to avoid congestion.
