TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pramac Racing rider, Jorge Martin, secured the MotoGP 2024 world champion title after a long battle with Ducati Lenovo Team rider, Francesco Bagnaia, until the last race of the series.
In the main MotoGP Barcelona race at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona, on Sunday, Jorge Martin finished on the podium in third place. This was enough to secure the championship title even though Francesco Bagnaia was the fastest in the GP Solidarity main race.
Jorge Martin claimed the championship after securing a total of 508 points, leading by ten points ahead of Pecco Bagnaia in second place.
Pecco, who started from pole position, began the race excellently by securing the front position.
Meanwhile, Jorge Martin, starting from fourth position, quickly took over second place to challenge Bagnaia.
Entering the second lap, Marc Marquez in third position maneuvered to take second place from Jorge Martin.
Marquez was chased by Jorge Martin, trying to regain second place and catch up with Pecco, who was performing dominantly in front.
However, Marquez held his position convincingly and maintained it until the last 12 laps, while Martin could not catch up.
As the race entered lap 19, Bagnaia protected his position from Marquez's pursuit trying to catch up for second place.
In the 21st lap, Aleix Espargaro was challenged by Alex Marquez, who maneuvered to take fourth place. However, Alex Marquez's efforts were futile in catching up with Aleix Espargaro.
Pecco, untouched in the lead, ultimately finished the race by securing the GP Solidarity champion title, followed by Marc Marquez in second place and Jorge Martin in third place.
Although securing third place on the podium, with an additional 16 points, Martinator's points tally was unreachable for Pecco Bagnaia.
This championship title makes Martinator snatch his first MotoGP champion title during his professional career. The 26-year-old rider also ended Pecco's domination, who was the MotoGP champion in the last two seasons.
