TEMPO.CO, Jember - The eruption of East Java volcano Mount Raung did not have much impact on state railway KAI services in the operational area (Daop) 9 of Jember. Concerns about seismic tremors or volcanic ash rain that would cause problems along the Banyuwangi - Jember route did not occur.
"After receiving information about the eruption of Mount Raung, the Railway Operational Control Center (Pusdalopka) in Jember immediately coordinated with all ranks along the route, including the train drivers on duty along the Daop 9 Jember route from Pasuruan to Banyuwangi," said KAI of Daop 9 Jember Legal and Public Relations Manager, Cahyo Widiantoro, in a written statement received by Tempo on Tuesday afternoon, December 24, 2024.
From the results of the coordination carried out by Pusdalopka, until 14:15 Western Indonesia Time, the stations and the train journey were still monitored as safe and running normally. No tremors or ash rain were felt along the Daop 9 Jember route.
"Today, Tuesday, December 24, 2024, or D-1 of Christmas, KAI of Daop 9 Jember served 20,736 passengers, of which 10,223 were boarding passengers and the remaining 10,513 were disembarking passengers," he said.
The public does not need to worry about using the train. In addition to the availability of standby material equipment (AMUS) in 8 locations, the Daop 9 Jember's KAI has also prepared a flying gang that can be immediately dispatched to the scene if needed.
"KAI of Daop 9 Jember is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and secure train transportation during the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year Transportation period," he said.
As previously reported, Mount Raung, which is located on the border of Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Jember, erupted on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at around 09:30 Western Indonesia time. The eruption produced an ash column that was observed to be approximately 2,000 meters above the summit.
