TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia, or PT KAI, plans to increase transportation capacity for the 2025 Eid homecoming season. KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo said the state-owned company has prepared 3.8 to 4 million seats to meet demand during the homecoming season.
"So we plan to increase the capacity by about 3.8 million or almost 4 million," Didiek said at the SOE Ministry Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Didiek delivered the information after a meeting with SOE Minister Erick Thohir at the same location to prepare for the 2025 Eid homecoming season.
Didiek said KAI will start selling tickets for the homecoming season 45 days before departure. He urged potential passengers who plan to travel home by train to buy their tickets according to the schedule.
Meanwhile, Erick Thohir said that the ticket prices for land and sea transportation will not be increased during the Eid holidays in 2025. Erick Thohir said that the policy is in line with the current government's direction. "There will be no increase in ticket prices, neither in Pelni, nor in ASDP, nor Jasa Marga, nor Damri, nor anything," said Erick Thohir.
Erick Thohir said that his office will reduce the cost to the public. One of the ways is not to increase the price of return tickets during Eid.
Eid is one of the moments when Indonesians go home or return to their hometowns. In the Hijri calendar, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr falls on the 1st of Shawwal.
The government has set an estimate for Eid al-Fitr 2025 in the Joint Decree of the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of Strengthening the State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform. Based on the Joint Decree of 3 Ministers, 1 Syawal 1446 H or Eid al-Fitr 2025 is estimated to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025.
