The Kansas City Chiefs have placed Felix Anudike-Uzomah on injured reserve, meaning he will miss the entire NFL season.
The defensive end, a former first-round draft pick, will be sidelined for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury.
He picked up the injury during Friday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks while chasing down rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe. Anudike-Uzomah eventually pulled up on the sideline.
'That's a tough thing,' Reid said Monday. 'He's worked hard... It is disappointing for him, I know, because he works so stinking hard.'
It is a major blow to Patrick Mahomes and his teammates' hopes of regaining their Super Bowl crown after February's heavy loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans.
Anudike-Uzomah, who grew up 13 miles from Arrowhead Stadium, has played in 34 games for the Chiefs, starting three times.

He has made eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His career highlight so far was a sack on C.J. Stroud in their playoff win over the Houston Texans last season.
The Chiefs also waived running back Elijah Young, re-signed defensive end Owen Carney and added linebacker Xander Mueller on Monday.
The reigning AFC champions did have some good news last week, however, when it was announced that Rashee Rice will be available for the first four games of the season.
The wide receiver will have a disciplinary hearing with the NFL on September 30 in New York after causing a chain-reaction crash last year on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured
Rice still has to serve a 30-day jail sentence in the future for. He already agreed to pay more than $1million in a settlement with the victims.
Rice is returning from a knee injury that cut short his sophomore season in the NFL following a standout rookie campaign.
He would be eligible to play the first four games, including a Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, before his hearing.
