TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto has set the Readiness Level I for all defense units in Indonesia. Readiness Level I in the TNI command is the highest level of readiness, where all personnel must be prepared at their headquarters, complete with weapons, ammunition, and vehicles, to face emergency threats.
The Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency, Lieutenant General Yudi Abdimantyo, stated that the imposition of Readiness Level I aims to anticipate the domestic security situation following the United States and Israel's attacks on Iran, which triggered Iran's retaliatory attacks on several US military bases in the Middle East.
The imposition of Readiness Level I is considered unnecessary to report to the People's Consultative Assembly (DPR). This imposition also does not apply to civilians. Here are the things to know about the imposition of Readiness Level I:
Commander of the TNI Orders Patrol of Vital Objects
The Commander of the TNI, General Agus Subiyanto instructed the Jaya/Jayakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya/Jayakarta) to deploy personnel to conduct security patrols at strategic vital locations and foreign embassies in Jakarta.
Purpose of Imposing Readiness Level I
The TNI Headquarters stated that the imposition of Readiness Level I for all defense units in Indonesia aims to anticipate the development of the situation internationally, regionally, and nationally.
No Need to Report to the Parliament
Member of the DPR's Commission I, Retired Major General TNI Tb. Hasanuddin, stated that the imposition of readiness status one by the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto does not require the approval of the legislators in Senayan. The imposition of readiness status one by the TNI is determined amid the escalating war in Iran and the situation in the Middle East.
Hasanuddin emphasized that the imposition of readiness status only relates to the level of soldier readiness. "However, if this readiness is to be used for a specific military operation or other than war military operation, its use must obtain the approval of the DPR in accordance with Law Number 3 of 2025," said TB Hasanuddin.
Does Not Apply to Civilians
The Co-Founder of the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS) Khairul Fahmi stated that the imposition of Readiness Level I in the TNI's command chain is an instruction from the commander and applies only to the internal military institution. The level of readiness demanding preparedness for potential threats does not apply to civilian society.
