TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Risnandar Mahiwa, the Acting Mayor of Pekanbaru, in a sting operation conducted in the city of Pekanbaru, Riau. The arrest was confirmed by KPK Deputy Chairperson Johanis Tanak.
“The Acting Mayor of Pekanbaru has been arrested,” Tanak stated in a written statement on Monday night, December 2, 2024.
Tanak stopped short of providing further details about the specific allegations against the mayor, who also holds the position of Director at the Ministry of Home Affairs. He claimed that the KPK is currently conducting a 24-hour investigation into the case.
KPK Deputy Chairperson Nurul Ghufron earlier confirmed the sting operation in Pekanbaru on Monday night. He said the anti-graft body is still conducting a 1x24-hour examination process and requested patience from the public as the investigation unfolded.
