TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating alleged money laundering (TPPU) by former North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba (AGK) through the flow of funds for the construction of the Alkhairaat Foundation building.
The Alkhairaat Foundation is one of the largest Islamic community organizations in eastern Indonesia.
To investigate the alleged money laundering, KPK investigators questioned the chairman of the board of directors of the Alkhairaat Foundation, Asgar Basir Khan, as a witness in the alleged money laundering case of Abdul Gani Kasuba.
"The KPK is questioning witnesses for alleged acts of corruption crimes (TKP) within the North Maluku provincial government, for suspect AGK," KPK spokeswoman Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto said in a written statement on Friday, October 25.
Tessa said Asgar Basir Khan was questioned at the KPK's Merah Putih building in South Jakarta on October 24. "The witness was present and questioned about the alleged flow of money from suspect AGK to the Alkhairaat Foundation for the construction of the building," she said.
Abdul Gani Kasuba has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted in a bribery and gratification case. In the trial on Thursday, September 26, 2024, the judge sentenced Gani Kasuba to imprisonment and a fine of Rp300 million.
