TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian anti-corruption agency, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), searched bribery suspect Hasto Kristiyanto’s residence. The chief of a prominent party in Indonesia, PDIP, was named a suspect in the case involving Harun Masiku.
KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto confirmed the search, saying it took place at Hasto’s house in East Bekasi, West Java.
Contacted separately, two KPK chiefs also did not deny that a search operation was taking place.
KPK previously named Hasto as a suspect on Tuesday afternoon, December 24, 2024, in a bribery case involving PDIP politician Harun Masiku against former KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan.
Since being named a suspect, Hasto has never fulfilled KPK's summons.
KPK Chair Setyo Budiyanto said Hasto had a vital role in the bribery case, as he allegedly helped Harun Masiku flee. To date, Harun Masiku remained a fugitive.
Based on the KPK investigation, according to Setyo, Hasto also provided the bribe money for Wahyu Setiawan. The case was first discovered when KPK ran a sting operation against Wahyu on January 8, 2020.
Wahyu was suspected of receiving bribe money to help smooth out the process of the interim replacement mechanism (PAW) of House members from PDIP (Democratic Party of the Struggle) in the South Sumatra electoral district.
The PAW process began when the PDIP legislator candidate from South Sumatra Electoral District II, Nazarudin Kiemas, died three weeks before voting began in 2019.
In accordance with the provisions of the Election Law, the replacement ought to be the next most-voted legislator candidate in the electoral district concerned, namely Riezky Aprilia, but PDIP opted for Harun Masiku, who was fifth on the list.
For the crime, KPK arrested Wahyu and PDIP cadre Saeful Bahri. However, the agency failed to arrest Harun Masiku, as he fled during the operation.
In this case, Wahyu Setiawan was sentenced to six years in prison, while Saeful Bahri was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison.
