KTP Photo, Selfie Required to Buy Football Tickets via Garuda ID; PSSI Guarantees Data Security

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has introduced a new rule for buying tickets to watch Indonesian national team matches. Buyers must first create an identity as a Garuda fan, called Garuda ID, which requires uploading their ID cards or KTP and a selfie photo to ensure the facial recognition system.

When registering on the official Garuda ID website, Garuda fans are required to upload a photo of their KTP and fill in their personal details according to their KTP. Registrants must also upload a selfie photo for facial recognition registration and wait for verification.

PSSI is aware of the public's concerns about the security of the data they enter when registering. The association has ensured that it has a consultant who handles data and guarantees the security of Garuda ID registrants' data.

"In terms of data security, we have asked for a consultant who focuses on data handling so that [Indonesian Football Event Organization] will pass the ISO 27000. We want a consultant who will guide all of our system security," said PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Arya Sinulingga in a press conference at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Thursday, October 24.

Ensuring data security, Arya said, is part of PSSI's responsibility as it develops changes to the stadium's spectator system to prevent overcrowding and combat ticket scalping practices.

The requirement to register Garuda ID, Arya said, is based on PSSI chairman Erick Thohir's statement that Garuda ID applies to all parties without any discrimination.

These requirements are necessary to ensure the security of football matches in Indonesia, he said, especially the Indonesian national team match, which Bahrain had questioned. He said PSSI has good security measures in place, even better than Bahrain. "We even have facial recognition for fans. So there's nothing to worry about," he said.

Tickets purchased through Garuda ID, Arya said, will be entered into the server, so officials will only have to check through the devices at the stadium gate. "The data has been entered, so there's no need to worry about the data or the server going down. We also don't use a server that needs to be connected to the Internet," he said.

PSSI said that as of October 23, 24,000 supporters had been verified as having Garuda ID cards. Meanwhile, there are 6,000 people who have registered since yesterday afternoon and are trying to resubmit due to problems with either the OTP code in the email or personal details that do not match the KTP.
