TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - London has dethroned Dubai as the world's top travel destination, according to Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards: Best of the Best Destinations 2025. This comes as London ranks among the most searched global destinations by reviewers on the travel website, with Bali taking the second-place spot. Duba which had held the crown since 2022 is now in third place.
This year's Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Awards encompass seven distinct categories: Top Destinations, Trending Destinations, Culture Destinations, Food Destinations, Honeymoon Destinations, and two exciting new subcategories - Solo Travel Destinations and 25th Anniversary Destinations.
The awards are determined based on the quality and quantity of reviews submitted by global travelers on Tripadvisor between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. These reviews include accommodations, restaurants, and activities within each nominated destination, specific to the corresponding award subcategory.
London takes the crown from Dubai
Crowned as the world’s top destination, London has risen two places from last year. It also takes the top spot in Tripadvisor’s 25th Anniversary Destinations category based on all-time reviews since the platform’s launch in 2020.
The British capital is renowned for its culinary delights, rich arts, and heritage offerings. It is no wonder the city is ranked second in the Food Destinations category and third in Culture Destinations.
Travelers on Tripadvisor said London is the greatest city in the world, while another described it as a travel destination offering endless possibilities for exploration.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, highlighted the millions of tourists who visit London each year. “London is without doubt the best city in the world to visit, attracting millions of tourists every year who are amazed with everything that our great city has to offer. With our unrivaled mix of cultural attractions, renowned food scene and a sporting calendar that cannot be beaten, I am delighted that Tripadvisor agrees that London is the top destination in the world,” he said as cited by Tripadvisor.
