TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno on Tuesday inspected Merak Port, Banten, to ensure its readiness to serve passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Pratikno said the people's comfort, safety, and health are the government's top priorities during the year-end holiday. "We continue to strive to improve the best service for the community, from transportation, worship, to tourism services," Pratikno said after inspecting the facilities and infrastructure of Merak Port in an official statement, on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
Several members of the Red and White Cabinet accompanied Pratikno during the monitoring. They were Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency Suharyanto, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati, Head of Basarnas Kusworo, and Acting Deputy for Coordination of Education Quality Improvement and Religious Moderation of the Coordinating Ministry for PMK Warsito.
Based on the results of the on-site monitoring, Pratikno ensured that all facilities, including transportation and services at Merak Port, were in optimal condition to handle the surge of passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays. In addition, the minister warned of the potential for hydro-meteorological disasters due to high rainfall that could affect sailing. He also emphasized the importance of the readiness of all stakeholders to face all possibilities in the field.
Pratikno paid special attention to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, children, and pregnant women. He instructed all port officers to provide maximum service, especially in accessing transport facilities.
"We have reminded the officers in the field to remain vigilant and provide the best service, especially to the elderly, persons with disabilities, children, and pregnant women."
