TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft will close its Microsoft Lens application on iOS and Android devices starting from September 15, 2025. In its latest announcement, Microsoft directed users to scan documents using Copilot, which is based on artificial intelligence (AI).
"To continue using scanning capabilities, we recommend transitioning to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, which offers a built-in scanning feature," Microsoft wrote on the support.microsoft.com website cited today, Monday, August 11, 2025.
Microsoft Lens can still be used after September 15, before it will be completely removed from devices on December 15, 2025. After December 15, users can still access previous scanning results as long as the application remains installed on the device.
"Microsoft Lens will be removed from App store and Google Play Store on November 15, 2025," wrote Microsoft.
Users who will scan through Microsoft 365 Copilot must access the scanning button. After that, the scanning results can be viewed.
However, several features are not available in Microsoft 365 Copilot. These include the ability to save scans directly to OneNote, Word, or PowerPoint; to scan business cards and save them to OneNote; a document reading function with voice; and immersive reader integration. VCF and OneNote files are also not available in the Microsoft 365 Copilot application.
First launched in 2015, Microsoft Lens (formerly known as Office Lens) has evolved from an app originally designed for Windows mobile devices. Its main function is similar to other mobile scanning apps: converting notes on paper, documents, business cards, recipes, or other notes into easily readable digital files.
With Microsoft Lens, even scribbles on a whiteboard can be scanned. Then, users can choose files in any desired format, such as PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or JPEG.
Microsoft Lens offers a variety of built-in filters that can enhance your scanning results. For example, you can make the image brighter or add black-and-white contrast. Users can save files to other Microsoft applications or other online services.
