TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has installed a total of 76 Starlink units in the flood and landslide-affected areas of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as of Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Polri's Public Relations Division Head Inspector General Sandi Nugroho stated that the satellite internet network has become the mainstay for residents who have been deprived of signal and communication access for days. He emphasized that every minute is crucial for the disaster-affected communities.

"The Starlink service for the community is provided 100 percent free, without any charges in any form," said Sandi in a written statement quoted on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

He also mentioned that this internet access has helped expedite the delivery of field information to the government and disaster response teams. The installation of Starlink units is prioritized in areas with poor signal reception.

"We are here to reestablish communication that was completely cut off," Sandi stated.

Of the 76 Starlink units, 36 were installed in Aceh, 32 in North Sumatra, and 8 in West Sumatra.

Sandi expressed that the Polri is committed to maintaining a continuous presence in the community. He affirmed that they will strive until all communication needs and assistance are fully restored. "We want the public to know that they are not alone," added Sandi.
