TEMPO.CO, Bangkalan - Prabowo Subianto, the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, purchased a sacrificial cow from Jamil Achmadi, a resident of Dusun Tlempok, Katol Timur Village, Kokop District, Bangkalan Regency, East Java. The Simmental Cross cow weighs 1.6 tons and was bought for Rp90 million to be used as a sacrificial animal for Eid al-Adha in 2025.
Iskandar Ahadiyat, Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Office of Bangkalan, explained that the request came from the State Secretariat and the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health (DGPKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture. They had asked his office to help find a sacrificial cow for the president.
“There were several criteria, such as a minimum weight of 800 kilograms and a healthy condition, which had to be confirmed directly by a veterinary team,” Iskandar said on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Following the request, the Livestock Office team immediately began selecting and examining several cows. In the end, Jamil Achmadi’s cow was selected because it met all the requirements and significantly exceeded the minimum weight.
“The minimum weight required was 800 kilograms, but we found a cow belonging to Mr. Jamil that weighed up to 1.6 tons,” Iskandar said.
He also mentioned that, in addition to Jamil’s cow, the State Secretariat and DGPKH requested three more cows with weights between 700 and 900 kilograms, intended for distribution to several Islamic boarding schools.
All the purchased cows are now under the care of the Livestock Office until the day of slaughter. The office is responsible for their health and maintenance, including administering deworming treatments and providing a nutritious diet of concentrate and high-quality grass, such as elephant grass and red napier.
“The cows will be sent to the Bangkalan Regency Government Mosque. The meat will be distributed to the public through a coupon system,” Iskandar added.
Meanwhile, Jamil Achmadi expressed his happiness and pride that his cow was chosen by President Prabowo.
“At first, I thought it was someone pretending to be from the State Secretariat, since it’s not uncommon for people to pose as officials these days. But after the officers came in person, I was convinced,” Jamil said with a smile.
He explained that his initial asking price was Rp 95 million. After factoring in income tax, maintenance, and transportation costs, both parties agreed on a final price of Rp 90 million. “I’m very happy. I hope this cow brings blessings, and that the meat can be enjoyed by the people of Bangkalan during Eid al-Adha,” he said.
