TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with the families of the three Indonesian UN peacekeepers, who were also a National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers, who died in Lebanon. The soldiers lost their lives while on a peacekeeping mission with the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Prabowo met the families of the soldiers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang. The soldiers who died in Lebanon were Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.
Prabowo was seen approaching them near the coffins that had just arrived at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Lebanon. The Chair of the Gerindra Party had a brief conversation when approaching the families of the soldiers.
Prabowo also took a moment to kiss the head of a baby from one of the soldiers who died during the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The moment occurred when the President approached the family of the late Sergeant Kepala Anumerta Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
The families appeared tearful in front of Prabowo. One of the families of the fallen TNI soldiers expressed their grievances to the president. "Our husband was praying, Sir," one family member said to Prabowo, as seen in a live broadcast at the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
After that, Prabowo paid his respects in front of each coffin. The former defense minister was accompanied by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Foreign Minister Sugiono.
The bodies of the three TNI soldiers had previously arrived at the airstrip of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at around 5:55 PM. A number of Peacekeeping Mission Center troops carried each coffin into ambulances.
The ambulances, marked with the Ministry of Defense, then transported the three coffins to the VIP room in Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
UNIFIL had previously held a ceremony to honor the three TNI soldiers who died during the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The ceremony took place on Thursday, April 2, 2026 local time.
"A release and honor ceremony for the three Indonesian peacekeeping personnel was held at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon," wrote the official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Friday, April 3, 2026.
Several attacks in Lebanon had previously resulted in TNI soldiers becoming victims. Since the end of March 2026, three TNI soldiers had died while on duty in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission. Meanwhile, eight other soldiers were injured in the attacks.
At present, both the UN and UNIFIL are still investigating the origins of the attacks that killed the Indonesian soldiers. In recent weeks, it was known that Israel had carried out attacks on peacekeeping forces in Southern Lebanon.
