TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto greeted the citizens lining Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, Jakarta, after being inaugurated as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia on Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2024. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) set up festive stages at various points along the city’s main road for the presidential inauguration event.
Prabowo passed by the HI Roundabout around 13:05 local time. Standing on the open roof of his car, he waved to the crowds and volunteers along the area. A few minutes later, Gibran passed by in the MV3 Garuda Limousine, waving through the window.
Prabowo and Gibran then proceeded to the State Palace for a farewell ceremony with former President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
The farewell ceremony took place after the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, earlier this morning. Entertainment was prepared at the front entrance of the State Palace, with several dancers seen practicing for the event simulation the day before.
The committee planned to showcase three traditional dances as state guests arrived: the sparkling Jakarta Betawi dance, the Kembang Janger dance from Bali, and a Papua warrior dance. The Betawi and Bali dances would be performed by five female dancers each, while the Papua dance would be performed by five male dancers.
At another corner of the Jakarta Presidential Palace, a red carpet was being laid out in the Merdeka Palace yard. Tempo observed that in addition to the red carpet, tents, and chairs for guests were also set up in an area twice the size of a futsal field.
After the farewell ceremony at the Palace, former President Jokowi would return to Solo on Sunday evening.
The Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi, said Jokowi would be escorted by President Prabowo to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta.
“[Jokowi] will board the Indonesian Air Force's plane. The ministers of the Indonesia Maju Cabinet will join [Prabowo] in seeing off Jokowi's departure to Solo at Halim Airport this evening. The 7th President will be bid farewell with full honors,” Hasan said in a brief message to Tempo.
